GS Caltex, GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C), and SDT, a digital transformation and quantum technology company, are collaborating to develop and demonstrate immersion cooling technology aimed at reducing energy consumption in data centers.
On September 15, GS Caltex held a signing ceremony at GS Tower in Gangnam, Seoul, to formalize an agreement for the joint development and collaboration of immersion cooling technology for data centers. The event was attended by key representatives, including Yunkyung Yong, Vice President of the Finished Lubricants Business at GS Caltex headquarters; Sangjun Lee, Head of Architecture Research Center at GS E&C; and Jiwon Yune, CEO of SDT.
This agreement was significant as it brought together three key players in the industry: GS Caltex, a supplier of immersion cooling fluids; GS E&C, a specialist in data center design, construction, and operation; and SDT, a provider of immersion cooling systems. Through this partnership, the companies will work together to demonstrate immersion cooling technology and promote its adoption in data centers, laying the foundation for future market expansion.
Immersion cooling technology involves submerging heat-generating IT equipment such as servers and batteries directly into a non-conductive fluid to dissipate heat. It is especially well suited for cooling high-heat AI servers and is drawing attention as a next-generation cooling solution, offering significantly greater energy efficiency than traditional air-cooling methods.
GS Caltex is set to supply data centers with its proprietary immersion cooling fluid, Kixx Immersion Fluid S, while also conducting compatibility testing across servers and providing the technical solutions required throughout the full life cycle of the fluid.
In partnership, GS E&C will lead the development and demonstration of next-generation immersion cooling technology for data centers by combining its design and optimization expertise for large-scale immersion cooling systems with its prefabrication technology.
Meanwhile, SDT plans to supply its independently developed and domestically produced immersion cooling system, AquaRack, and use it to secure empirical data by verifying and optimizing its energy-saving effects.
“Through this partnership, we have been able to further enhance the efficiency and sustainability of data centers by utilizing immersion cooling solutions,” stated Yunkyung Yong. “Starting with this collaboration, we will continue our efforts to work closely with GS E&C and SDT to develop immersion cooling technologies and strive to expand its market adoption to improve energy efficiency in the data center industry.”

Collaborating with industry partners to drive the commercialization and expansion of immersion cooling technology
Since launching Korea’s first immersion cooling fluid, Kixx Immersion Fluid S, in 2023, GS Caltex has been partnering with companies across the domestic and global data center ecosystem to demonstrate its immersion cooling products and drive market expansion, in addition to this latest agreement.
In June 2025, GS Caltex supplied immersion cooling fluid to LG U+’s hyperscale data center, Pyeongchon 2 Center. The company is also working with Supermicro, a global server manufacturer headquartered in the U.S., to build an immersion cooling system at its R&D Center in Daejeon and conduct in-house evaluations of thermal management performance and stability for AI servers. In addition, it is collaborating with Samsung Electronics, a global semiconductor company, to demonstrate the compatibility and stability of immersion cooling fluids with memory devices inside servers.

In 2024, the company expanded its immersion cooling portfolio to include four products, providing tailored solutions for diverse industries
In 2024, the company expanded its product lineup by differentiating its immersion cooling fluids into four products, making them applicable not only to data centers but also to electric vehicle (EV) batteries and energy storage systems (ESS). It is committed to continuing to supply and demonstrate these products in collaboration with companies across various industrial sectors.
